A Relaxed Second Wedding Ceremony – With One Very Unexpected Objection

There are some ceremonies that unfold exactly as you might expect… gentle, meaningful, quietly emotional.

And then there are those that hold all of that — and still manage to surprise everyone in the room.

Kerry and Len’s ceremony was very much both.

From the moment guests arrived, there was a calmness to the day. Around 150 of their favourite people gathered together, the space softly dressed in cream and sage green. Bridesmaids in flowing green dresses, a little flower girl in the sweetest cream and green — every detail felt considered, but never overdone.

It was their second time round, and you could feel the difference that brings. A sense of ease. A quiet confidence. Less about tradition for tradition’s sake, and more about what actually matters to them.

We created a ceremony that reflected that — relaxed, warm and full of meaning. The kind of ceremony where people feel included, where there’s space to breathe and where nothing feels rushed.

And then, just as I reached that familiar moment…

“If anyone knows of any lawful reason…”

The doors opened.

A “bride” appeared — in full drag — singing “It Should Have Been Me” at the top of their lungs.

For a split second, there was that collective pause…

And then the entire room dissolved into laughter.

Bouquet in hand, they made their way straight towards Len and delivered a perfectly timed — and very theatrical — whack with the flowers.

Only Kerry, Len and I knew it was coming.And that’s what made it so funny. The surprise on 150 faces, followed by a room absolutely full of laughter.

Then, of course, I had to somehow bring us all back to the small matter of Kerry and Len getting married.

“No objections then!”

The guests roared again.

Sometimes, you just have to read the room and go with the flow.

And once the laughter settled — just about — we carried on into Kerry and Len’s vows.

Because that’s the thing about a ceremony.

It doesn’t have to sit in one tone.

It can be emotional and light.

It can be sincere and playful.

It can hold real meaning and still leave plenty of room for laughter.

For Kerry and Len, that unexpected moment didn’t take anything away from their ceremony.
